Britain’s most expensive properties revealed

The most expensive streets in Britain can be found in South West London where the average price of a property is over five million pounds, according to research published today (Monday January 03).

Parkside in Merton, just a short walk from Wimbledon’s All England Tennis Club, is named the most expensive residential street with an average price of £5,058,000, a report from Lloyds TSB shows.

More than half of the 20 most expensive streets in England and Wales are in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Wycombe Square, the most expensive street in last year’s survey, is the second most expensive street in the country with average price of £4,415,000.

The remainder of the top five are also all in Kensington and Chelsea. Blenheim Crescent has average price of £4,346,000, Mallord Street £4,091,000 and Drayton Gardens £4,011,000. Woodlands Road West in Virginia Water and Burkes Road in Beaconsfield) are the only streets outside the capital to make it to this year’s top 20.

The research shows that there are an estimated 228 streets in England and Wales with an average house price above £1 million and 36 of these have an average price of more than £2 million.

Whilst the vast majority of the country's most expensive streets are in London and the Home Counties, there are many other streets throughout the country that also command a high average price.

Brundenell Avenue in Sandbanks, Dorset has an average house price of £1,562,000 and is the most expensive street outside of London and the South East. There are several other streets in this exclusive area on the south coast where properties command a high price, including Elms Avenue at £1,484,000, Crichel Mount Road at £1,311,000 and Bingham Avenue at £1,219,000.

The most expensive street outside southern England is Withinlee Road in Macclesfield where the average house price stands at £1,629,000.  Other high valued streets outside the south with an average price above £1 million are Torkington Road in Wilmslow at £1,298,000, Park Lane in Altrincham at £1,251,000, Graham Parker Road in Newcastle at £1,228,000, Macclesfield Road in Alderley Edge at £1,142,000 and Western Way in Newcastle at £1,141,000.

In East Anglia seven of the ten most expensive streets are in Cambridge close to the main University area with Sedley Taylor Road the most expensive at £ 1,111,000. While in the East Midlands Sandy Lane in Northampton is the most with an average price of £865,000.

Six of the ten most expensive streets in the South East are in Surrey. These include Woodland Road West in Virginia Water £2,770,000, Blackhill in Esher £2,666,000 and Moles Hill in Leatherhead £2,591,000. Philippines Shaw in Sevenoaks is the most expensive street in Kent at £2,352,000.

Four of the ten most expensive streets in the West Midlands are in Solihull. The most expensive streets are Alderbrook Road £850,000 and Temple Road £798,000. While the most expensive streets in Yorkshire and the Humber are mainly in the area that makes up a golden triangle between Harrogate, Wetherby and north Leeds. Five of the ten most expensive streets in the region are in Harrogate, including Green Lane £758,000, Royal Gardens £741,000 and Cornwall Road £714,000. However, the region’s most expensive street is Bracken Park in Scarcroft, Leeds with an average price of £871,000.

The most expensive street in Wales is Llantrithyd Road in the Glamorgan Vale with an average house price of £789,000. Although the most expensive streets tend to be in the south of Wales, the second most expensive is Gannock Park at £677,000 in the North West town of Conwy. Streets in Cardiff follow, with Druidstone Road £651,000 in the Old St Mellons area, Lake Road West £644,000 and Westminster Crescent £582,000.
