What to add to your outdoor living space?

As the weather warms up, many householders will be looking at ways to update their outdoor space.

If you’re thinking of making your garden an extension of your home, it’s worth planning now for the months ahead. By organising the space before summer arrives, you’ll have everything in place for a season outdoors.

Here are some additions to enhance your garden.

Seating

Whether you’re inviting friends over for a barbecue or you simply need a space to relax, getting the seating right can make all the difference. Consider your current setup before you make any changes. What furniture do you already have?

If you have a relatively new outdoor dining table and chairs, a simply update like adding new cushions can make it feel like it’s new. Or if you want to update your seating setup, consider the dimensions of your outdoor space and research the single chairs or sofas that might work well.

Should space be limited, a few beanbags could be a laidback addition. These could also add a pop of colour. Look out for bright tones and fuzzy peaches that tap into current trends.  Cushions also create soft seating surfaces while throws are both pretty and functional when the sun goes down.

Lighting

Lighting is both a practical addition to a garden space and a pretty one. It can guide you and guests if you’re staying outside once the sun sets or act as a security light. But outdoor lighting also creates a beautiful glow.

Plan where you want your lighting to be. You can wrap rope lights around trees, light up pathways or have a freestanding solar lamp around your seating area. Take the time to research lighting that fits your aesthetic and your personal taste.

Shelter

While the weather tends to warm up for us in the UK, there’s still the risk of a downpour when you least expect it. From entertaining guests to simply having lunch outside, a permanent shelter can be a worthwhile investment.

A pergola is probably one of the easiest of these permanent additions. Look into options that fit in your outdoor space and check dimensions so that you have the best fit. This will need assembling so you’ll possibly need tools like a concrete or masonry drill to put it together securely.

Wall hangings and mirrors

If you’d like to add some outdoor décor, there are several options that you might like to try. Mirrors can create the illusion of space and make dark corners brighter. These could, therefore, be a pretty addition to the space. Wall hangings on the side of your house and along fences are another interesting addition that enhance and complement your garden.
