London estate agency expands despite decade of challenges

A London-based estate agency is relocating to a larger branch in High Barnet, marking ten years of operation since its establishment in February 2016.

Mi Homes, founded by Nick Kyriacou, previously operated from Southgate. The firm offers sales and lettings services to vendors, landlords, investors and developers, and has recently completed a rebrand alongside the branch relocation.

Industry challenges

Kyriacou, who gained experience at Kinleigh, Folkard and Hayward before establishing Mi Homes, cited the period as one of significant difficulty for the sector.

“Over the past decade, Mi Homes has operated through some of the most challenging and transformative periods the property sector has faced,” Kyriacou said. “We have seen numerous shifts in regulation, rapid digitalisation, the Covid-19 pandemic, and ongoing market volatility.”

Public perception shift

The estate agency sector has seen some improvement in public trust, according to the Ipsos Veracity Index published in late 2024. Estate agents ranked 8th for untrustworthiness, compared to third least trusted in 2016.

Kyriacou stated he founded the firm due to frustration with the industry’s public reputation, saying: “I just knew there was a different and better way.”

The expansion comes as the North London firm reaches its tenth anniversary, navigating a period marked by regulatory changes, technological transformation, and market volatility affecting the wider property sector.
