Cambridge tops best investment location in Britain

With property investors more leery than ever about investments around the world, it's good to know that some places in the UK are actually safe investment opportunities.

Times Online outlines its top list of locations in Britain that offer safer investments. Cambridge leads the list as it has good wages, employment growth is steady and the workforce has qualifications. The limited supply of good property makes it more attractive.

York is second on the list as a history and good looking town with easy train links to London. A small amount of housing is available in the centre of the city.

The survey examines several areas including the affordability of purchasing property in that location, wages and unemployment factors as well as population growth and qualifications of the locals in these cities.

There are also signs that the UK housing market is falling. Repossessions hit a 14 year high in 2007 and the last three months have seen significant housing price drops. At the same time, most experts agree that the UK housing boom of the last several years was much larger than the US housing boom. While during the US housing boom, property prices were six times the average income, in the UK housing prices reached nine times.

Lenders are tightening their belts too making property investments much more risky and harder to get into.
