Martin & Co Huddersfield completes fourth agency acquisition

Will Taylor, franchise owner of Martin & Co Huddersfield, has completed the acquisition of independent estate and lettings agency ADM Residential, marking his fourth business purchase since establishing the operation in 2009.

The deal consolidates ADM Residential’s property portfolio into the Huddersfield franchise, which now employs a team of 12 staff members managing residential sales and lettings operations. Taylor initially launched the business with one employee before expanding through organic growth and strategic acquisitions.

Integration strategy

Lisa Hollings, Operations Manager at Martin & Co Huddersfield, outlined the firm’s approach to integrating acquired businesses. “Every acquisition brings its own challenges, but having a clear plan and making sure the team is aligned from the outset makes a huge difference,” she said.

The integration prioritises maintaining service continuity for ADM Residential’s existing landlords, vendors, and tenants whilst transitioning them to the larger operational structure. The acquisition comes at a time when buy-to-let yields have reached their highest level since 2011, potentially affecting landlord retention strategies.

According to Taylor, the expanded 12-person team will provide enhanced client access and support infrastructure. “As we have a strong team of 12 staff members, ADM landlords, vendors, tenants and customers will always be able to speak to someone about any queries they have,” he stated.

Market context

The consolidation reflects broader trends in the estate agency sector, where independent operators face increasing pressure from regulatory requirements and market volatility. Recent data shows property viewings have declined 57% as the buyer-seller gap widens, creating operational challenges for smaller agencies.

The combined portfolio aims to create operational efficiencies through shared resources and cross-referencing between properties, though specific portfolio sizes and financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

This acquisition strategy demonstrates a pattern of regional consolidation within the Martin & Co franchise network, with Taylor’s Huddersfield operation growing from a two-person startup to a multi-acquisition business over 15 years of operation.
