Landlords must bring their properties up to a minimum Energy Performance Certificate bank of C by 2030, Labour has confirmed.
Miatta Fahnbulleh, energy security and net zero minister, said: “We will require landlords to improve their properties to Energy Performance Certificate band C by 2030.
“Ensuring warmer, healthier private rented homes will lift many families out of fuel poverty and reduce energy bills.”
Reaching an EPC of C across the private rental sector was due to come into force in 2025, before ex-Prime Minister Rishi Sunak rowed back on that target in September 2023.
As it stands landlords only need to achieve an E rating to rent out a property.
Labour has reassured that people won’t be required to rip out their gas boiler in a bid to reach net zero.
