140-home Development in Hatfield Peverel

property renovation

Work has now started on a new homes development which will bring 140 homes to the Essex village of Hatfield Peverel.

Bellway’s plans to develop a 15-acre site off south of Stone Path Drive in the village were approved by Braintree District Council in May. The land already benefitted from outline planning permission for housing, which had been granted in July 2019.

With construction work at the development – which will be called Priory Grange – now commenced, Bellway is planning to release the first selection of homes for sale at the site this winter.

A total of 84 private homes will be available at the development, comprising two, three, four and five-bedroom properties, while a further 56 properties will be delivered as affordable housing for rent or shared ownership. The homes, built across 10 acres, will include houses, apartments and bungalows.

Bellway will also create a five-acre area of accessible natural greenspace that will include recreational routes, a children’s play area and hedgerow planting. The land between Priory Grange and The Street will also be transferred to Hatfield Peverel Parish Council for wider community use.

As part of the planning agreement, Bellway will also contribute funding towards outdoor sports, allotments, healthcare, and education.

Richard Burrows, managing director of Bellway Essex, said: “With planning permission in place, we have already made a start with construction at Priory Grange where we will be providing much-needed new homes for local people.

“Situated in an attractive location for residential development, the site is near the A12 for travelling into Chelmsford and Colchester, as well as being less than a kilometre away from Hatfield Peverel railway station for trains into London Liverpool Street in as little as 45 minutes. There will be a mix of homes to cater for a variety of buyers, as well as providing 40 per cent affordable housing at the development that will help meet the local demand. Great care will also be taken to preserve and enhance the natural landscape around the development. With construction work already underway, we are looking forward to releasing the first homes for sale at Priory Grange this winter.”
