The responsibility of Hanoi People’s Committee is huge, and one of their most important duties is the approval of construction projects within the city. Previously, the construction of five hotels of a world class variety was approved to create tourism within the city. Today, they added their approval to three more hotels of the five star variety bringing the total number of hotels currently being constructed in Hanoi up to eight hotels.
These eight hotels in total have drawn an investment of USD 1.2 billion.
Information from sources at the Hanoi Tourism Department indicated what the first project is the construction of a Marriot chain hotel which will be erected near one of the city’s largest convention centres. The second project is a combination hotel, villa and office, which will be constructed in the Ba Dinh district. The third project is a combination hotel and office which will be constructed within the Tay Ho district.
This represents a small part of what appears to be a very large push by the tourism department in developing infrastructure conducive to encouraging the growth of the tourism industry in the Vietnamese capital city.
In addition to the eight hotels that are currently under construction, the tourism department also apparently has plans for the construction of at least two golf courses in the Thanh Tri and Gia Lam districts.
Additionally, they have plans for a horse racing course in the Soc Son district, which the Hanoi Tourism Corporation has signed on to build along with the help of unnamed foreign private enterprise partners.
According to a spokesperson for the Hanoi Tourism Department, their plans are not set to end there. They are currently considering the construction of more entertainment resorts as well as different plans for eco-tourism support structures. All in all, it appears as if 2008 will see a large increase in the amount of buildings constructed in Hanoi in order to further the city’s tourism.
