South Asian markets good over long term

Southeast Asia has long been a potential target for people that were looking for developmental areas in which to put their money and this potential extends to far more than just the property market. However, for property investors in particular the countries of Southeast Asia offer great opportunities for long term investment that could provide safety from the crumbling markets in some of the first world countries.

Vietnam in particular is a country that many have cited as being hopeful for strong future gains in the real estate market as it attempts to reorient itself and become the economic powerhouse for Southeast Asia.

While there has been a significant slide in both property and stocks (around 30% in the stock market) since the peak in March of 2007, most analysts believe that rather than being indicative of the same slump hitting first world property markets, Vietnam instead is a young property market with a high level of natural volatility. This will result in sharp movements in both directions over time and most analysts believe that in the long term the sharp move will be upwards on a large scale.

However, Vietnam is not the only country in Southeast Asia that has benefited from a recent boost in their property market. Singapore is another country that has expanding real estate infrastructure and high demand as well. They also have events that suggest a strengthening of their property market in the short term, which means that the Singapore property market for the moment could end up being a better investment than the one in Vietnam.

Other countries in Southeast Asia also have flourishing property markets. In Thailand, not only is there natural real estate development happening as an affluent class starts to emerge due to the country’s economic development, but there is also regularly increasing tourism leading to higher property development projects. All of these point to a strong long term outlook on the property market.

With Vietnam, Thailand and Singapore leading the charge, one can expect Southeast Asia to be a property market hotbed for many years to come. And this means that investors should start looking.
