Bellway invests almost £2 million in Bedworth’s facilities

Bellway is investing almost £2 million to help improve local infrastructure and facilities in Bedworth, as part of the redevelopment of the former Newdigate Colliery site.

The housebuilder is delivering 169 new homes at Astley Fields, off Astley Lane, including 127 properties for private sale and 42 affordable homes available for local people through shared ownership or rent.

As part of the planning agreement to deliver these homes, the developer is contributing £1,937,697 to the local area.

Marie Richards, Sales Director for Bellway West Midlands, said: “This significant investment of almost £2 million demonstrates Bellway’s commitment to Bedworth and the local area.

“As well as delivering a range of high-quality housing to meet the needs of local people, we are also delivering tangible benefits for the community.”

The former colliery site was a major part of the Warwickshire coalfield and local economy for more than 80 years before it closed in 1982.

Bellway’s contributions will provide more than £740,000 for schools, with funding for primary education, early years, and special educational needs for both primary, secondary and post-16 provision.

Sports development will receive more than £390,000, and more than £310,000 will go towards off-site open space and maintenance.

Funding of £222,000 will be provided for bus services and the maintenance of bus stops, while there will also be contributions for hospital and NHS services of more than £199,000.

Marie continued: “Our homes and this development have been well received in the town, and this was especially apparent at our recent showhome launch in April, where we welcomed many prospective housebuyers on site and showed them around the Joiner and Tailor house types on offer at Astley Fields in closer detail.

“Bedworth is a historic town with a rich heritage, and this is reflected in our careful transformation of this landmark former colliery site, bringing five-star builder quality to create a thriving and bustling new neighbourhood on the western edge of town.

“We look forward to welcoming yet more residents on site over the coming months as we continue to meet the growing need for new housing in the area.

“The regeneration and investment we are delivering here will provide a significant boost for the area and will have a lasting positive impact on the wider community.”

Bellway has retained five-star builder status with the Home Builders Federation for the sixth year running. This means more than 90 per cent of customers say they would recommend the housebuilder to a friend.

Astley Fields includes a mix of two, three and four-bedroom houses for sale. There’s currently a selection of three and four-bedroom homes available to reserve, with prices starting from £273,500.
