As with other countries that have become part of the European Union, Croatia must meet specific requirements in all areas prior to being accepted into the EU. But this date may be moving closer. On Thursday, a date for early membership into the EU was received. According to the European Commission, Croatia should be well on their way to being admitted by the end of 2009 – This is the first time a date has been given.
As reported by the Financial Times, Jose Manuel Barroso who serves as European Commission President said, "It should be possible to conclude the technical negotiations next year, preferably by the end of the mandate of this Commission [in November 2009]." He made the reports after he spoke with Croatia's Prime Minister, Ivo Sanader.
For property investors within the European Union, this move into the EU will make property buying faster and simpler. Additionally, it will open doors for property investors seeing affordable new developments, where Croatia is considered an emerging market.
Croatia has become a favourite among some UK residents for holidays. It has grown in popularity over the last few years, and with this move, it may become one of the best locations for investments.
