The Vale in the royal borough of Kensington and Chelsea is the most expensive residential street in England and Wales, with an average house price of £4,677,500.
But the second most expensive street comes as a surprise, even to its residents. Ingram Avenue, a little known road in Barnet, north London, comes second with an average price of £4,465,000.
Panorama Road in Poole, another well known area for the rich, is the most expensive street outside London with an average price of £4,158,333. But it is Kensington and Chelsea that the wealthy aspire to overall as 25 of the 50 most expensive streets are in the borough.
Outside the south of England where property prices are traditionally higher, the most expensive street is Congleton Road in Alderely Edge, Cheshire, yet another area well known for its rich residents including footballers. This road has an average price of £1,684,166.
That is followed by Kent Road in Harrogate, Yorkshire, with an average price of £1,173,373
'Chelsea and Kensington have some of the most expensive streets in England and Wales. The Royal Borough has been a highly fashionable area to live in since the Swinging Sixties. In recent years, its prime location in Central London has attracted affluent celebrities and ultra wealthy foreign businessmen helping to drive up house prices,' said Martin Ellis, chief economist at Halifax.
The figures in the report were compiled from over 1.78 million UK post codes supplied by the Royal Mail in conjunction with the Land Registry database of housing transactions and prices. Average prices are based on transactions between 2004 and 2008.
