They are both behind new golf courses in the Portuguese archipelago with work starting next year.
Faldo, regarded as the most successful European golfer of all time, is involved with the Calheta Golf Course in the Ponta do Pargo region of Madeira. His company, Faldo Design, said it will be an 18 hole championship standard course and predicted it will be one of the finest in Europe.
'The enduring feature of this project is the dramatic nature of the site. Our plans make full use of the clifftops and headland that juts out into the clear waters of the Atlantic. It is absolutely stunning,' said Faldo.
'We are also utilising a number of valleys that cut through the site, allowing for some remarkable elevation changes. There are mature conifers that will add character to the design,' he added.
Ballesteros, regarded as the Arnold Palmer of European golf, will put his name to a second 18 hole golf course on neighbouring Porto Santo where he has already designed on course. He is also in discussions about a new course in the Sao Vicente area of Madeira.
All three projects are expected to boost visitor numbers and attract property investors. 'Golf is a great draw for property investors especially when such two golfing legends like Faldo and Ballesteros are involved. We expect properties located in and around these courses to appreciate over the next few years,' said George Laplante, a property consultant on the islands.
