In a message to the TRNC People, Davutoglu said, ‘Turkey will always be by the side of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.’
The Foreign Minister added that his visit to the TRNC had two important aspects. The first was symbolic as it demonstrated Turkey’s support towards reaching a settlement, and the second was to evaluate the ongoing process.
Davutoglu said that Turkey wanted peace not only in Cyprus but in the whole Mediterranean region.
In a message to the Cyprus Turkish people, the Turkish Foreign Minister reminded that the people of the NC had demonstrated its will towards a settlement and changed the international community’s perception towards the Cyprus Problem.
He emphasised that the Cyprus Turkish people continue to suffer under international embargoes, which had an obvious impact on property investment, despite having voted in favour of the UN-sponsored plan in 2004.
He added that the EU should not allow the Cyprus Problem to threaten its own interests.
He said that the Cyprus Problem continued to pose a major obstacle for a large number of issues and projects within the EU, and the continuation of the international isolation of the TRNC people was inexcusable.
