In response to reports that long-promised plans to stop landlords in England evicting tenants without giving a reason could be scrapped by the Government, London Assembly Labour’s Housing Spokesperson, Sem Moema AM, said:
“This would be a betrayal of London’s private renters who have to live constant threat of eviction hanging over their head due to the cruel no-fault eviction law.
“Londoners were promised a reformed system that would work for them.
“In a letter to me just a few weeks ago, the Government promised these reforms were still in the pipeline and for them to now drop these long-awaited proposals is devastating.
“I urgently call on the Government to reconsider this immediately. Many renters already face poor housing standards and with rents increasing by nearly 16% in the capital, these protections are vital.”
