Halifax rated the UK’s best bank

Halifax has been rated the UK’s best bank owing to the speed and ease of application.

The ‘Mortgage Lender Benchmark’ research, which asked mortgage brokers of their opinions of lenders, was carried out by review site Smart Money People.

The worst rated bank for service was M&S Bank.

Brokers’ second favorite bank was NatWest, followed by BM Solutions, HSBC and Atom Bank.

Elsewhere Accord Mortgages was labelled the best building society, followed by Coventry and Nationwide.

Fleet Mortgages was the top rated specialist lender, with the research praising the lender’s communication. Taking second and third place were Bluestone and Pepper Money.

With lifetime mortgage lenders more 2 life was given the top spot, followed by L&G and Pure Retirement.

Atom Bank was the most improved in 2019.

While Barclays was neither the best nor the worst, brokers were unsatisfied with all process themes, including its online systems and underwriting,

The overall satisfaction of brokers with the lenders they do business with decreased overall.

It now stands at 81.1%. This is a decrease from 81.6% in H1 2019 and from 82.1% in H2 2018

Brokers were more satisfied with the performance of building societies than the rest.
