More than three-quarters of the homes at a new housing development in Saffron Walden have now been completed.
Linden Homes has finished work on 159 of the 200 properties it is building at its Saffron View site, off Radwinter Road.
Eighty one of the 122 houses for private sale have been completed and handed over to their owners, while all 78 affordable homes for rent or shared ownership have also been completed and occupied.
Jason Colmer, sales and marketing director for Linden Homes Eastern, said: “Construction work is progressing well at Saffron View where almost 80 per cent of the homes have been completed four years into the five-year build programme. In addition to the 81 private homes that are now occupied, a further 19 have been sold, meaning that we have reached the milestone of 100 reservations. Demand has been consistently strong ever since we began work on the site in 2017.”
As part of the planning agreement for the development, Linden Homes, which is part of the Vistry Group, is providing funding of £1.68 million towards local services and infrastructure.
Jason said: “The secret was already out that Saffron Walden was a highly desirable location but after it was named by The Times in December last year as one of the best places in the country to live, we were inundated with calls from prospective purchasers looking to relocate here. Around 85 per cent of the buyers at Saffron View have moved from outside the area, with the vast majority coming from London in search of more space and a better quality of life.
Buyers have swapped their one or two-bedroom flat in Chelsea or Westminster for a large five-bedroom detached property at Saffron View, with some having money left over after securing their new home.
Construction work began on the site in 2017 and is due to finish in December 2022.
There are currently three, four and five-bedroom homes available, priced between £465,000 and £854,995.
