Housing desperately needed in Jamaica

Jamaica has become a large draw to the foreign investor especially as the country draws a large tourism industry. Many of those that continue to see the country's tourism buy to let market as an opportunity can also work into the residential developments looking for buyers.

The planners are working on putting together an overhauled method and land use goal to help improve the housing markets here. Less discrimination in the rental market is part of the package.

Overcrowded areas are hurting the physical development of other areas and causing social problems as well. In rural areas, which offer the lowest of property prices, some 52% of households were overcrowded whereas in other areas 47.8% were in similar situations.

Still, the country offers much opportunity for the property developer and overseas investors who continue to flood into the country. Locations like Negril have become hotspots for investors.

Tourism in the country continues to grow. Many of the tourists here are from the United States as well as Canada, though more interest from the United Kingdom and other European countries has helped to spur the latest growth.
