Women becoming more confident about overseas property investment, it is claimed

Walter Zephirin, director of 7th Heaven properties, which specialises in the sale of Caribbean properties, said he has seen a 30% rise in inquiries from women investors in the last year.

‘Women have historically been the natural homemakers so when my female clients set their minds to investing in property they can have a completely different outlook. Female investors are getting more and more confident when it comes to whereabouts they would like to place their money,’ he explained.

One such investor is Katrina Riley who cut her teeth with UK investments, she owns 27 houses in the UK, before moving into the French property market and more recently the Caribbean with an investment in the Cayman Islands. The purchase has proved so profitable in fact that the land has increased 100% in the two years since purchase, prompting Katrina to recently buy another plot.

‘I’m living proof really of the ease of property investment in the respect that you don’t have to have specific qualifications to get into property investment. My background is a degree in Speech and Language therapy and I’m also a mother of five children so prior to all this I had had no real experience in property investment,’ she said.

‘Very often women can be lead to believe that investment and property development is  very much a man’s world or certainly for women with strong business acumen but I honestly feel a lot of it is confidence and following your gut instinct, even if you aren’t always feeling confident on the inside,’ she added.

Katrina explained that she bought her first piece of land in the Cayman’s at quite a high profile property exhibition in London which was also holding seminars relating to investment. ‘I found myself to be the only woman attending these seminars and my first instinct was to run but I’m so glad I didn’t as it gave me a chance to expand my understanding and knowledge,’ she said.

She has found working with a company such as 7th Heaven Properties as an added bonus especially for investors wishing to have in-depth knowledge of the area and for those not entirely sure on a destination and its buying procedure.

7th Heaven Properties lists land and property for sale from across the Caribbean islands. Clients are able to search for anything from a retirement home in Costa Rica or St Lucia, to a beachfront plot of land in the Cayman Islands, to a hotel for sale in the Dominican Republic.

According to Zephirin the company operates through a network of select, trusted partners throughout the Caribbean, including the Caribbean’s leading real estate agencies, property developers and individual sellers of property of the highest quality.
