Martin & Co franchisee acquires Basingstoke branch

David Rebe, a Martin & Co franchise owner, has acquired the Basingstoke operation, marking his second expansion within the network since joining in March 2024.

Rebe initially entered the Martin & Co franchise system by acquiring the Oxford and Thame businesses. The Basingstoke acquisition follows the retirement of the branch’s previous franchise owner.

The Basingstoke operation maintains an established client base and a team with lengthy service records. Rebe stated his preference for acquiring established branches with existing teams, noting he would only implement changes that add value to stakeholders.

Franchise expansion strategy

According to Rebe, his objective from the initial acquisition has been to develop a network of branches, citing economies of scale as enabling improved client service through pooled resources.

“I have been very impressed with the Martin & Co business that we acquired two and a half years ago,” Rebe said. “We receive a lot of support from The Property Franchise Group and, in the current environment of legislative change, the importance of having this type of support cannot be underestimated.”

Rebe’s immediate focus will be understanding the Basingstoke business before identifying development opportunities. His longer-term plans include growth through both acquisitions and organic expansion.

Industry consolidation

The acquisition reflects broader consolidation trends within the estate agency sector, where estate agents face evolving operational challenges including regulatory changes and technological adaptation.

Toby Phillips, Group Managing Director of Martin & Co, said: “We are delighted to see David continue to grow within the Martin & Co network. Since joining us in 2024, he has embraced the franchise model and demonstrated a clear focus on customer service and sustainable growth.”

The expansion gives Rebe three franchise locations within the Martin & Co network, which operates as part of The Property Franchise Group. The move comes as property market participants navigate shifting market conditions and increased regulatory requirements.
