A new Channel 4 television series examining property auction purchases launches this evening, featuring property expert Sarah Beeny as presenter.
The programme, titled ‘I Bought it at Auction with Sarah Beeny’, documents buyers who have purchased properties through auction, often requiring substantial renovation work. The series airs at 8pm on Channel 4.
Programme format
The first episode features two couples who have acquired homes through auction – one property in Guildford and another in Cornwall. The programme also includes a former council toilet in Newport, South Wales, which was sold at auction and converted into a performance space.
According to Beeny, the series aims to highlight both the risks and potential opportunities within the auction property market. “Buying property at auction is risky and not for the faint-hearted but for those who dare, it can be an exciting, albeit nerve-wracking, way to get on or move up the property ladder,” she stated.
The new series follows Beeny’s previous three-year run of ‘Sarah Beeny’s New Life in the Country’, which documented her relocation from London to rural Somerset.
Market context
Clemency Green, Senior Commissioning Editor at Channel 4, described the programme as covering “the risks – and rewards – of buying property at auction” for both investors and first-time buyers.
The series will air weekly on Channel 4, providing viewers with insight into the auction property market, which represents an alternative route to property acquisition outside traditional estate agent sales.
