Aspiring US President Kamala Harris has unveiled her housing plans ahead of the election taking place on November 5th.
Harris wants the country to build 3 million housing units in four years with the help of tax incentives to housebuilders.
Developers will be given tax credits to build homes for first-time buyers or for affordable rent.
Meanwhile local government finance departments will be bolstered with a $40 billion fund, up from $20 billion.
Eligible first-time buyers would also be handed $25,000 in down payment assistance, a move that would help an estimated four million households.
Harris urged for bills to restrict tax benefits for large landlords and prevent owners from using services that “coordinate” rent prices – though such proposals would require action from Congress.
Harris said: “I think that if you want to know who someone cares about, look at who they fight for.
“Donald Trump fights for billionaires and large corporations. I will fight to give money back to working and middle class Americans.”
Trump attacked Harris by suggesting she should have already brought in these changes as vice president, saying: “Where has she been and why hasn’t she done it?”
