Redrow acquires land from Strata for joint new homes development in Leeds

Two home builders have joined forces for a proposed development of almost 400 new homes in Cross Gates, Leeds, after Redrow acquired land from Strata.

Formerly the Vickers Tank factory, the 45-acre site known as Radial Park, off Manston Lane, will be jointly developed by Redrow and Strata, with plans for 395 homes.

For its part, Strata is planning to create 195 new homes, with Redrow building a further 200 properties on its newly acquired 16.35 acre parcel.

Both premium home builders are proposing a wide range of two, three and four-bedroom designs, with Redrow’s range offering more traditional family housing from its popular Heritage Collection and Strata well-known in Yorkshire for its contemporary homes.

The homes will be sold from two outlets: Strata’s to be known as Destination 17 and Redrow’s as Centurion Fields.

John Handley, managing director of Redrow Yorkshire, said: “We’re pleased to have acquired this land from Strata for a new development of 200 homes in East Leeds. Cross Gates is a great place to live with superb access to Leeds city centre just five miles away.  Residents will also be a short walk away from the new Thorpe Park Railway Station, which is due to open in 2024.

“As well as benefitting from excellent transport links, the new homes will be right on the edge of beautiful countryside and close to nearby parks and villages, so we’ve no doubt the development will be sought after. In line with Redrow’s and Strata’s placemaking principles, the wider development will feature swathes of open space, with a community park in the Eastern corner, two smaller parks and a central open square.”

The Government reaffirmed in September that construction work on the neighbouring Thorpe Park Rail Station would begin by the end of 2023, with the station expected to open in 2024. The station will sit on the Transpennine route, between Cross Gates and Garforth, and provide high frequency services to and from Leeds City Centre, making the new homes at Thorpe Park and Radial Park perfect for commuters.

Redrow is well known in the area for building homes at the neighbouring Thorpe Park development, as well as at Roundwood in nearby Garforth. The premium home builder also has several other proposed sites in the pipeline in Leeds.

John added: “Leeds has been a firm focus of our land buying plans and we look forward to bringing this sustainable new development to fruition alongside Strata.”

Gemma Smith, Strata managing director, said: “We are delighted to have acquired the land for this exciting new development in Leeds. The location is fantastic, and the designs are something special, this is going to be a really great place to live. The Strata and Redrow homes will complement each other perfectly, offering something to suit everyone’s style. We can’t wait to start building the homes and seeing the community grow.”

Strata design and build contemporary new homes. They love Scandinavian design and this influence flows through everything they do, from their interiors and home designs to the communities they build both online and on developments across Yorkshire and The Midlands. Their love of design and quality underpins a desire to create beautiful homes of the highest standard.
