Fewer new homes registered for sale in England and Wales in July, official data shows

A substantially lower number of new homes were submitted for registration with the Land Registry in England and Wales in July compared with the same month in 2017, official data shows.

Overall there were 95,721 sales received for registration in July 2018 of which 72,275 were freehold, a 3.7% increase on July 2017, according to the figures from the Land Registry.

Of the overall total some 11,819 were newly built home sales for registration, a 43% fall on July 2017.

A breakdown of the figures shows that terraced homes remain the most popular with 25,554 registered for sale in July, up from 23,243 in June and 22,363 in June. The next most popular type of home is semi-detached with 24,964 being registered, up from 22,251 in the previous month and 20,897 in May.

There were 21,568 detached homes registered for sale in July, up from 18,518 in June and 18,060 in May while there were 17,368 flats or maisonettes sold, up from 15,678 in June and 15,846 in May.

The data also shows that 526 sales were of residential properties in England and Wales for £1 million and over Some 300 were in Greater London, four were in the West Midlands and two were in Greater Manchester.

The most expensive residential sale taking place in July 2018 was of a terraced property in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, London, for £18,500,000.

The cheapest residential sale in July 2018 was a terraced property in Henllys, Cwmbran, for £6,120.

The most expensive commercial sale taking place in July 2018 was in the City of Westminster for £117,450,000 and the cheapest were in Haringey, London, and Stanford-Le-Hope, Thurrock, for £100.
