More newly built homes were registered for sale in England and Wales in May 2018, up 12.9% compared with the same month last year, the latest official figures show.
Overall some 83,429 sales received for registration in May by the Land Registry of which 62,086 were freehold properties, a 2.4% fall on May 2017, but up from 78,408 recorded in April 2018.
Terraced properties are still the most popular with 22,363 sales, followed by semi-detached with 20,897 sales and detached homes at 18,060. There were also 15,846 flats or maisonettes registered for sale.
Of the total some 375 were of residential properties in England and Wales for £1 million and over and 215 were properties in Greater London for £1 million and over.
The most expensive residential sale was a detached property in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in London for £15,750,000 while the cheapest were two properties in Rushden, East Northamptonshire, for £9,500.
The most expensive commercial sale was in the City of Westminster, London for £92,500,000 and the cheapest commercial sale was in Stockport, Greater Manchester, for £555.
