Number of newly built homes registered in England and Wales increased in September

The number of newly built homes submitted to be registered as sold in England and Wales increased by 2.9% in September, the latest official figures show.

The data from the Land Registry also shows that there was a 4.2% decrease in the number of freehold sales received for registration.

Overall there were 91,459 sales received of which 70,343 were freehold and 11,595 were newly built.

The number of detached properties registered reached 21.576, down from the 22,213 registered in August but just above the 21,968 registered in July.

Semi-detached registrations at 23,418 were also down from the 25,283 recorded in August and below the 24,848 registered in July.

The number of terraced homes also fell, at 24,285 they were below the 25,244 from August and the 25,115 from July.

But the number of flats and maisonettes rose month on month to 15,975 in September from 15,565 in August and just above the 15,915 registered in July.

The data also shows that in September 2019 the most expensive residential property sold was in Kensington and Chelsea for £17 million and the cheapest was in Sunderland for £16,000.

The most expensive commercial sale taking place in September 2019 was in Didcot for £32,750,000 and the cheapest commercial sale was in Salford for £100.

There were 545 residential properties in England and Wales for £1 million and over. Some 304 were properties in Greater London for £1 million and over, one was in the West Midlands, four in Greater Manchester and none in Wales.

There is a time difference between the sale of a property and its registration at HM Land Registry.
