Sale prices for homes in UK in March varied from £11 million to just £10,000

Over 96,500 residential and commercial land and property sales were lodged with the Land Registry in England and Wales in March 2017 with prices varying from £10,000 to £11.25 million.

Of these sales some 67,893 were freehold and 14,849 were newly built of which 510 were for £1 million and over 305 were residential sales in London for £1 million and over.

The most expensive sale was of a terraced property in the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea for £11.25 million while the cheapest was a terraced property in Blyth, Northumberland and a flat in Weymouth, Dorset, each being sold for just £10,000.

Separate data from the National House Building Council (NHBC) shows that 13,277 new homes were registered to be built across the UK in February, an increase of 9% on the 12,130 recorded a year earlier with 9,666 in the private sector and 3,611in the affordable housing sector.

Overall, there were 36,355 new home registrations in the rolling quarter form December 2016 to the end of February 2017 compared to 33,142 in the corresponding period last year.

The figures also show that many regions across the UK saw growth in house building activity, including Wales with a rise of 93%, Yorkshire and Humberside up 27% and the South West up 22% compared to the same time in 2016.

‘The strong start to this year’s new home registrations continues, with promising signs for the remainder of the first quarter. At a time when there is clearly a considerable demand for new homes, this growth in both the private and affordable sector is welcome news,’ said Neil Jefferson, managing director at the NHBC.
