Estate agency network Winkworth has acquired the residential division of independent agency Peter Clarke, establishing a presence in Stratford-upon-Avon and the North Cotswolds for the first time.
The acquisition, led by franchise owner Nick Martiny Roberts, extends Winkworth’s coverage across Stratford-upon-Avon, Wellesbourne, Shipston-on-Stour and Chipping Campden. The Peter Clarke branch in Leamington Spa will be rebranded as Winkworth Leamington Spa.
Regional expansion strategy
Martiny Roberts, who opened the Leamington Spa franchise in 2024, said the acquisition brings an established business with a track record into the Winkworth network. He will be joined by his father Paul as executive chairman of the expanded operation.
The Stratford-upon-Avon office will trade as Peter Clarke in association with Winkworth, with additional offices planned across South Warwickshire and the North Cotswolds. The move comes as estate agencies plan to increase sales fees in 2026 amid rising operational costs.
Dominic Agace, Chief Executive of Winkworth, said the expansion provides the company with a foothold in a region known for its connectivity and residential market. The new offices will have access to Winkworth’s digital infrastructure and head office support.
Staff retention and appointments
All existing Peter Clarke staff will remain with the business following the acquisition. Michael Hawkins will take the role of Operations Director, whilst Barney Smith has been appointed Area Sales Director.
Andrew Clarke, partner at Peter Clarke, said the businesses share a similar approach and ethos. The transaction follows a 13% fall in UK buyer enquiries in March, reflecting broader market conditions.
The acquisition adds to consolidation activity in the estate agency sector, as operators seek to expand market share in prime residential locations. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
