Work starts on new development of 258 apartments in Greenhithe

Construction work is now underway to deliver new housing on an overgrown vacant site in Greenhithe, to be transformed into a new residential neighbourhood.

Bellway Thames Gateway is building 258 new apartments at Crossways Quarter on a 4.8-acre site between St Mary’s Road and Crossways Boulevard, in Greenhithe.

The development will comprise 232 apartments for private sale and 26 affordable properties for local people through rent or shared ownership. There will be a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments across seven apartment buildings at the site.

Tom Sherriff, Managing Director of Bellway Thames Gateway, said: “With work now underway at Crossways Quarter, we have taken a positive step on the way to building the first homes at this new neighbourhood in Greenhithe.

“The development forms a significant contribution to providing much-needed new housing in this part of Kent. We are taking a plot of overgrown grassland and transforming it into a vibrant new community.

“The site will be a sustainable development with a variety of public spaces for the residents to enjoy. A large podium courtyard, accessible via steps from the street level, will offer a green open space for communal relaxation. Green spaces will be created throughout the site and there will be a children’s play area to entertain the younger members of the community.”

Crossways Quarter will offer 272 car parking spaces, cycle storage areas for each apartment building and a walking/cycling path that flows through the site.

Tom said: “This development is ideally situated, just a short drive from the hugely-popular Bluewater Shopping Centre which offers not only a large number of shops but also an array of cafes, restaurants, a trampoline park and a multiplex cinema.

“Excellent transport links see the development benefit from being just three miles from the M25. Fast track bus services will be available to residents here, while Stone Crossing railway station is just a five-minute walk from the site, and provides trains to Gravesend, Gillingham and a number of destinations in the capital including London Charing Cross and London St Pancras International.

“Crossways Quarter will bring a collection of desirable and genuinely affordable apartments to a site within easy striking distance of central London. This is the kind of quality development that Bellway Thames Gateway has a track record of delivering.

“With work now underway, we hope to launch the development in spring 2023 when the first homes are set to be released for sale.”
