The award Croatia received from the World Bank last month, in which it was named best reformer in Europe and the second best globally, is a major opportunity for Croatia to build on the already significant levels of international investment it is attracting.

That's according to Colliers International Croatia which has the leading international investment division in the country, its Investment and Corporate Advisory (ICAS) service.

Croatia was named best reformer in Europe and second best globally by Doing Business, a project by the World Bank's International Finance Corporation. The reforms refer to easier business regulations, stronger ownership rights, reduced tax burden, higher credit accessibility, and lower export and import costs.

Attracted by these reforms, Croatia has already enjoyed significant foreign direct investments in recent years. Proof of the already high level of interest for investments and doing business in Croatia is the fact that Colliers International Croatia and its Investment and Corporate Advisory (ICAS) division has achieved record valuation and advisory figures by any international property consultancy operating in Croatia. Namely, a total of 5,000,000 m2 has been covered in valuations since the beginning of 2008 and a total of 1,500,000 m2 has been covered through development advisory work in the same period. These totals are believed to be the highest achieved.

Tomislav Perovic, Managing Director of Colliers International Croatia, said, "The World Bank award will result in greater international awareness of the potential of the Croatian market. Foreign and domestic investors who are already doing successful business in Croatia are a living proof of the potential that the Croatian real estate market brings. It's important for all of us in Croatia that we take advantage of our country winning this award and prove its value by delivering to clients (either already operating in this market or to those who are entering it) successful business opportunities and quality services and products."

Colliers International specializes in detailed and highly professional investment, corporate and development advisory services, and has successfully advised numerous major international investors in Croatia.

Vedrana Likan, General Manager of Colliers International Croatia, said, "We are proud of the advancement that Croatia is making in the business sector. Part of that success is based on the professional service sector that includes consultancy and advisory services like the ones we offer. Often the first step taken by a big international investor before making a major investment. Our already high level of professionalism and knowledge that we in Colliers International foster will be even more stimulated by this award and result in the ever-improving quality of our services."

Colliers International Southeast Europe was named Property Consultant of the Year in for the region in 2008 for the third straight year. Colliers International Croatia was awarded this year the prestigious First Croatian Kuna, given to the top 1% of companies in Croatia. Colliers International is a global affiliation of independently owned and operated companies.
