The legislation governing agricultural tenancies is highly complex and a specialist Agricultural Arbitrator is appointed because their experience, expertise and impartiality enables them to deal with disputes on a variety of matters that can include rent reviews; end of tenancy compensation and dilapidations as well as Notices to Quit. There are currently about 50 agricultural arbitrators across the UK and Mike’s appointment brings the total in the South West up to four.
“This appointment to the Panel will build on the professional services we already offer our clients,” comments Mike Townsend. “The service that we provide our clients is constantly improving, and in the south west we have developed a real centre of excellence, offering a range of dispute resolution services including not only arbitration but also expert witness, independent expert, mediation, and advocacy services.”
A rise in the need for such services is often driven by markets. For example, ebbs and flows in the fortunes of the agricultural sector are usually mirrored by the amount of rent review activity and consequently the number of disputes occurring. More and more landowners and tenants are choosing surveyors to provide guidance on all aspects of the problems that arise from disputes.
