Savills opens an office in Gibraltar

Located in Irish Town, the office handles residential and commercial property for sale and to rent.

‘Gibraltar is increasingly viewed as a safe haven in the sun for UK  high net worth individuals and businesses and we are delighted to assist our clients with property solutions there,’ said Charles Weston Baker, head of international residential at Savills.

‘The market has remained steady during the recession and there is high quality housing, office and retail stock available. The Rock is stunningly beautiful and historically fascinating and is an ideal home from home retirement base, with the access to sporting, leisure and cultural world of southern Spain,’ he added.

Sammy Armstrong, head of Savills Gibraltar, said: ‘Gibraltar is a modern internationally compliant onshore European Union financial centre. There is no VAT, capital gains or inheritance tax and a fixed corporate tax of 10%. These are just some of the reasons that make Gibraltar an attractive jurisdiction for high net worth individuals and corporations alike who are seeking a solid British environment’.

He believes that people also come to Gibraltar simply for the lifestyle and the climate. ‘We are seeing an increase of people many who are British and of various ages moving to Gibraltar, to establish a place for work, rest and play in the sun,’ he added.

Gibraltar is little more than a two and a half hour flight from the UK, with direct services from Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton, Manchester and Liverpool. Alternatively, Malaga airport is an hours car journey away.
