Bellway to invest almost £2m in roads and education as part of Derbyshire developments

Bellway will have invested almost £2 million to support roads and education in Derbyshire under planning agreements for three developments in Wingerworth.

Building work is entering its final stages at Curzon Park, a development of 220 homes off the A61 Derby Road. A total of £431,663 will be invested in infrastructure, of which £421,800 will be spent improving the A61.

Additional contributions of £529,940 will be made under the planning agreement for Mill Fields, off Mill Lane. Mill Fields is being built by Ashberry Homes, which is part of the Bellway Group. The investment will include £277,033 for local education and a highways contribution of £152,000.

These two developments follow on from Bellway’s Brailsford Park site, also in Wingerworth, where work to build 158 homes off Mill Lane started in 2015 and was completed in 2020.

The housebuilder made financial contributions of more than £800,000 towards primary and secondary education, more than £120,000 towards play facilities and open space, and £3,800 towards a new household waste recycling centre.

In total, the three developments will have provided £1.9 million to the area.

Steve Smith, Sales Director for Bellway East Midlands, said: “Our planning contributions for these developments in Wingerworth will make a significant difference to the infrastructure and services in the area, benefiting locals for years to come.

“The investment in both education and highways demonstrate the positive impact new homes can have in an area and shows our commitment as a responsible housebuilder to the areas in which we build.

“The A61 is a key route in and out of Chesterfield, and the investment into work on the road will improve those journeys to and from the town. Our £1 million education contribution is also significant and will help to increase capacity in local schools to meet the needs of new and existing pupils.

“In addition to our planning contributions, these developments are providing the housing that the local market needs, creating employment opportunities and delivering improvements such as enhancements to wildlife habitats.”

Curzon Park is named after the Curzon family, who were local lords of the manor, and will deliver a range of two to five-bedroom houses, including three-bedroom bungalows.

Bellway has sold 102 of the private homes at Curzon Park and 90 of these are already occupied. A further 40 have been handed over as affordable homes.

Steve added: “Curzon Park is really taking shape now and we are starting to see the community forming. With our financial contributions to the area, homebuyers can feel confident that the infrastructure is there to support them.”

At Mill Fields, which has a range of three and four-bedroom properties, Bellway has sold 24 homes, with 31 occupied. A total of 11 houses are left to sell.
