Construction work passes halfway stage at Newport housing development

More than half of the homes at Bellway’s Heron’s Mead development in Newport have now been completed.

Bellway is building a total of 152 homes on the former Llanwern steelworks site off Queen’s Way, comprising 137 properties for private sale and 15 affordable homes for shared ownership or rent.

Residents have now moved into all 99 homes built at the site so far, which includes 87 private houses and 12 affordable homes. A further 22 properties have been reserved off plan ahead of their completion.

Heron’s Mead comprises a mix of detached, semi-detached, and terraced properties ranging from two to four bedrooms in size, as well as large areas of public open space.

Construction work started on site in autumn 2019 and is expected to be finished by next summer.

Carly Maidment, Sales Manager for Bellway Wales, said: “Heron’s Mead has proven to be extremely popular, with three-quarters of the homes for sale already reserved a year ahead of the development’s expected completion.

“The convenience of the location has been one of the main draws for buyers, whether that’s people who work in the centre of Newport just four miles away or commuters requiring easy access to the M4 for journeys to Cardiff and Bristol.

“There is a varied mix of properties available at the development which has attracted a wide range of buyers. First-time buyers, large families and downsizers have all been able to find a home to suit their needs at Heron’s Mead. While most of our customers here are local to Newport, we have also welcomed a significant portion of buyers from Bristol looking to get a bigger house within their budget.”

A selection of three and four-bedroom homes are currently available at Heron’s Mead, with prices starting from £275,995.
