Property prices in England Wales climbed marginally in 2012, land registry figures show

The total value of all residential properties sold at full market value during 2012 in England and Wales was £139,939,372,9812, the data published by the organisation which registers sales also shows.

The region with the biggest price fall over the year was the North East where prices fell by 2.9% but this was less than the decline of 5.4% in 2011.

The region with the biggest price rise over the year was London , up 5.9%, and an improvement on the rise of 1.4% recorded in 2011.

Overall there were 588,835 property sales in England and Wales compared to 539,577 in 2011. The county with the most property sales was Greater London at 83,068 and that with the least property sales was Merthyr Tydfil at 382.

The average price of a detached house in 2012 was £253,501, slightly less than the £255,788 average of 2011. For semi detached homes the average price was £153,437 compared to £153,158 in 2011. The average terraced house prices was £122,069, slightly lower than the £122,867 recorded in 2011. Flats and maisonettes saw the average price rise to £152,550 compared with £150,949 the previous year.
