Some 36% of people who took part in a survey, that is over 18 million home owners, would want to have a swimming pool in their home while 33% lust after an ensuite bathroom and 32% a conservatory, summer house or garden room.
The research from Ocean Finance also found that 27% want a walk-in wardrobe, 25% a bigger garden and 23% a jacuzzi or hot tub. Some 21% aspire after a gym, 18% want an open fire or log burner, 17% a cinema room, the same number an office or study and 16 a games room.
Other home dreams include 15% wanting a kitchen garden to grow their own food and the same number would like a garage. Some 13% dream about having a library and 12% want a bar or an outdoor swimming pool.
A wine cellar is wanted by 10% of people, 8% want a sauna, 6% a pond and 5% dream about a paddock, tennis court or a shed. A sit on mower is the dream of 4% while 2% hanker after a moat. Some 1% want a football pitch, a practice golf hole or a panic room.
But couples are often divided about their dream home. For example, some 39% of women want an ensuite bathroom but only 25% of men. Over three times the amount of women, 37%, compared to men, 12%, want a walk-in wardrobe.
Although some of the features are a little expensive, millions of people dream of a home with features that are more attainable. ‘It's fun to think about dream home features but actually, they don't have to just be in the imagination. Many of our aspirations are actually quite modest, adding an ensuite or a shed, for example, can often be quite achievable,’ said Ian Williams from Ocean Finance.
