Official data shows that fewer new homes were registered as sold in June

Fewer new homes were registered as sold in England and Wales in June, down 8.9% compared with the same month in June 2017, official figures show.

There was also a fall in the number of freehold properties sold, down by 5% year on year, according to the figures from the Land Registry.

Overall, of the 85,493 sales received for registration in June, the most popular type of property sold was a terraced house at 23,243, up from 22,363 registered in May and 20,714 in April.

The second most popular property type was a semi-detached home with 22,251 registered in June, up from 20,897 in May and 19,362 in June while there were 18,518 detached homes registered, up from 18,060 in May and 16,728 in April.

Some 15,678 flats or maisonettes were registered in June, down from 15,846 in May but up from 15,457 in April while in the other category 5,803 properties were registered, down from 6,263 in May and 6,147 in April.

Some 387 properties in England and Wales sold for £1 million and over were registered, of which 230 were in Greater London and one each in Birmingham, Manchester and Cardiff, the data also shows.

The most expensive residential sale in June was a detached property in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, London, for £28,500,000. The cheapest was a terraced property in County Durham for £17,250.

The most expensive commercial sale taking place in June was in the City of London for £71,200,000. The cheapest were in Waltham Forest, London and the Isle of Wight, both for £100.
