Fenn Wright has acquired Henry Rose, an independent sales and lettings agency in Ipswich, as part of a wider expansion strategy led by its newly appointed head of estate agency, Ian Fry.
The acquisition follows Fry’s appointment four months ago as head of estate agency and equity partner. Fry, who served as CEO of Connells Group’s estate agency division, brings over 30 years of industry experience to the role, having started his career in 1991 and joined William H Brown in 1996.
Integration plans
Henry Rose, established by James Cornish in 2012, will be integrated into Fenn Wright’s operations and will continue to operate from the firm’s Kesgrave branch on Main Road. The business will retain the Henry Rose brand whilst servicing existing and new landlords and tenants under Fenn Wright’s ownership.
Cornish will remain in his role following the acquisition. “Joining Fenn Wright brings several important benefits to our landlords, and I would like to reassure them that both Harry and I will remain fully involved in the business and day-to-day management,” Cornish said.
The move strengthens Fenn Wright’s presence in the Ipswich market, following broader consolidation trends in the UK estate agency sector. Recent activity has included regional mergers between independent agencies as firms seek scale advantages.
Acquisition strategy
Fry indicated that further acquisitions are under consideration. “James is quite simply Mr Kesgrave. His reputation, experience and connections in the local market are exceptional,” Fry said, adding that the acquisition supports the firm’s ambition to establish Kesgrave as a market-leading location for sales and lettings.
The firm has issued a call to estate agency owners considering a sale to contact Fry for discussions. The Henry Rose acquisition follows the opening of a new Fenn Wright office in Basildon earlier this year.
The expansion comes as UK property supply reaches decade highs, with agencies facing increased competition for market share. The acquisitions strategy appears focused on strengthening regional presence through established local operators, whilst rental demand remains strong in certain UK markets.
