Liverpool is the best city to save for a deposit, where the average house price is just £109,520, compared to average salaries of £23,314.
This means people can save for a 10% deposit in four years and eight months, according to research from Coulters Property.
The second best city to save for a deposit is Stoke-on-Trent, followed by Kingston upon Hull, Bradford and Middlesbrough.
It takes the longest time to save in London, at 24 years and 10 months. In London the average amount required for a 10% deposit is £77,190.
Oxford comes in second place, followed by Cambridge.
