Victorian homes the most sought-after period property style

Victorian homes are the most searched for period property style, underlining the appeal of Victorian architecture.

Rightmove, which conducted the research, felt period dramas such as Downton Abbey, Bridgerton and The Tudors have helped boost the allure of Victorian homes, which commonly have spacious interiors, ornate facades, and intricate details.

Georgian properties are the second most searched-for style, while the third most popular home style is Edwardian, followed by Tudor in forth, and Regency homes in fifth.

Tim Bannister, Rightmove’s property expert, said: “Home hunters continue to be captivated by the character and charm of properties that we see in period dramas.

“Victorian homes remain particularly popular, characterised by their historic charm, solid construction, and spacious interiors.

“You’ll often find Victorian houses in some of the most desirable locations which include convenient access to schools and transport links.”

Michael Holden, NAEA Propertymark president, cautioned potential buyers that older homes tend to have their issues.

He said: “While many British consumers cherish houses with history and character to them, it is vital that consumers remain aware of many of the challenges that come with older properties, whether that concerns an older property’s roofing or windows.

“That is why it is vital that consumers seek out a Propertymark-certified estate agent when opting to buy a historic property, because you know that they will ensure that people are aware of the advantages and disadvantages that come with historic properties and help them come to an informed choice, so that people can purchase their dream home and deal with any downsides regarding historic properties head on.”
